Contemplative Oral Prayer
Practice of the classical Rosary prayer Tuesday, July 21 and August 25, 2026, 7 pm to 7.45 pm, at Herbergsgasse 7 in Basel. The Rosary can become a true point of stillness in everyday life. Especially for young people, who are constantly on the move between studies, work, and social media, it offers something rare: a moment to breathe. Through the repeated prayers, a meditative rhythm is created that helps to organize thoughts and find inner peace. It is about looking at the life of Jesus Christ and internalizing it together with Mary, the mother of Jesus Christ. In the Catholic Church, she is honored as an intercessor, which means that she advocates for our concerns before Jesus. In the chapel of Herbergsgasse, we invite you to get to know and practice the Rosary in a playful way within a community. No prior knowledge required – instead, bring openness, exchange, and perhaps even new friendships. Short biblical passages help to bring the individual mysteries to life. Interestingly, this form of prayer is not a purely Christian phenomenon. Many religions have prayer beads – such as the Tasbih in Islam, the Mala in Buddhism, and the Japa Mala in Hinduism. Everywhere they help people to center themselves and draw closer to God. Perhaps the Rosary is exactly what you are missing: a way to dive deeper into the mystery of Jesus Christ with Mary and thus find more depth, peace, and meaning. Leader: Martina Grgic. Living Stones BaselMonthly Tuesdays, 6:30 PM, Start: September 22, 2026, Herbergsgasse 7 in Basel Monthly Sundays, 12:30 PM, Start: October 18, 2026, Basler Münster Living Stones is an international network of young adults. They are passionate about faith, art, and culture and seek to understand and pass on the living message of church art. In addition to prayer and exchange, there are also educational opportunities and international meetings. There is also a group in Basel that is ecumenically open and meets about twice a month during the semester. We grow as a community and share our faith through scripture reading, prayer, and exchange about art and life. In addition to the joint meetings, we offer guided tours in the Basler Münster to bring art and the message of faith closer to visitors free of charge. Interested parties are always welcome! We meet on Tuesdays at 6:30 PM for further education, prayer & exchange, and on the mentioned Sundays at 12:30 PM for a shared meal. From approx. 1:45 PM, we meet visitors in the Münster. - Autumn Hike on the Jura Ridge Path
Saturday, October 24, 2026, 9 am to 6 pm Together we will travel via Frick to Benkerjoch and hike from there via Salhöhe to Geissflüh - where we will have a cozy picnic - then, depending on our energy, we will continue hiking to Wisen or “Untere Hauenstein”. We will walk towards the sun and enjoy the view. The actual hiking time is approximately 4.5 hours. English speaking students are particularly welcome at this event. Costs: Travel costs TNV ticket (finances should not be a barrier to attending) Bring along: Picnic; sufficient drinks; hiking boots; jacket; we recommend long trousers (risk of ticks), possibly rain protection; sun protection. - Poetry Evening: Between Heart and Algorithm
Monday, October 26, 7:00 to 8:30 PM, at Herbergsgasse 7 in Basel In a relaxed setting, we will read, recite, and discuss selected poems on the topic from all eras of German literary history up to the present. We look forward to all interested students and young adults. Digitization, globalization, and urbanization have changed our lifestyle and given new faces to proximity, distance, and loneliness. At the same time, many facets of digitization remain unknown and mysterious to us. We will explore these through the art form of poetry: poetry goes far beyond everyday language, alienates it, and makes moods and emotions tangible through meaningful form and richness of imagery. Special literary knowledge is not required (but of course welcome), as we will not be conducting a theoretical analysis, but rather wish to have and enjoy practical experiences.
