Poetry Evening: Between Heart and Algorithm
Monday, October 26, 7:00 to 8:30 PM, at Herbergsgasse 7 in Basel In a relaxed setting, we will read, recite, and discuss selected poems on the topic from all eras of German literary history up to the present. We look forward to all interested students and young adults. Digitization, globalization, and urbanization have changed our lifestyle and given new faces to proximity, distance, and loneliness. At the same time, many facets of digitization remain unknown and mysterious to us. We will explore these through the art form of poetry: poetry goes far beyond everyday language, alienates it, and makes moods and emotions tangible through meaningful form and richness of imagery. Special literary knowledge is not required (but of course welcome), as we will not be conducting a theoretical analysis, but rather wish to have and enjoy practical experiences. Led by: Abaris Schild (studying German Studies and Philosophy) and Andreas Schalbetter SJ (poet and theologian) Registration by 10 PM the previous evening at kug@unibas.ch facilitates our planning and implementation.

Living Stones BaselMonthly Tuesdays, 6:30 PM, Start: September 22, 2026, Herbergsgasse 7 in Basel; Monthly Sundays, 12:30 PM, Start: October 18, 2026, Basler Münster. Living Stones is an international network of young adults. They are passionate about faith, art, and culture and seek to understand and convey the living message of church art. In addition to prayer and exchange, there are also educational offers and international meetings. There is also a group in Basel that is ecumenically open and meets about twice a month during the semester. We grow as a community and share our faith through scripture reading, prayer, and exchange about art and life. In addition to the joint meetings, we offer guided tours in the Basler Münster to bring art and the message of faith closer to visitors free of charge. Interested parties are always welcome! We meet Tuesdays at 6:30 PM for further education, prayer & exchange, and on the mentioned Sundays at 12:30 PM for a joint meal. From approx. 1:45 PM, we engage with visitors in the Münster. - Autumn Hike
Saturday, October 24, 2026, 9 am to 5 pm Hiking, enjoying, on the way together. We will take a leisurely hike into autumn. English speaking students are particularly welcome at this event Cost: Travel expenses (finances should not be an obstacle to coming along) Bring along: Picnic; plenty to drink; hiking boots; we recommend long trousers (risk of ticks), possibly rain protection; sun protection. - Bible Study Living the Word: Faith in Action
Saturday, October 3rd, October 31st, December 12th, 10:30 a.m. at Herbergsgasse 7 in Basel. Studying the Bible is about discovering who God is and learning how to walk faithfully with Him. It draws on centuries of wisdom about who we are as human beings—and who we are called to become. This group will explore Scripture together, with a focus on discussion and reflection on how its knowledge can shape our daily lives. Each session includes a short reading, guided reflection, and open discussion. No prior Bible knowledge is needed—only a willingness to grow, ask honest questions, and consider what it means to follow Christ in a real and practical way. Whether you are a Christian believer or simply curious about Christianity, you are warmly welcome to join us.
