Demo against surrogacy in front of the child-buying fair

“Children are not commodities, women are not incubators,” explains Maria Frey, deputy chairwoman of the Youth for Life, a youth initiative of the Aktion Lebensrecht für Alle e. V. “That an exhibitor who openly advertises for surrogacy and mediates surrogate mothers is barred from a German fair is an important signal. The city is thus sending an important sign against human trafficking.” Surrogacy is prohibited in Germany, yet it is advertised at fertility fairs. The association Frauenheldinnen is taking legal and activist action against this. This is how the city responded with its decision to an application by Frauenheldinnen e. V. and three affected women, including Olivia Maurel, who was herself born to a surrogate mother and is a spokesperson for the Casablanca Declaration for the universal abolition of surrogacy. Submitted documents and memory protocols from previous fertility fairs led to a re-examination and now to intervention against the exhibitor “Nordic Surrogacy”. “We are not demanding new bans, but that existing law be enforced,” says Eva Engelken, founder & chairwoman of Frauenheldinnen e. V. The association calls for a demo against surrogacy in front of the child-buying fair in the Sartory-Säle on Saturday, October 17th from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m.
