Who are we?

We are the Emmanuel Community – a vibrant community of faith that seeks to make God experienceable in the midst of everyday life.

  • We live in community because we believe that God is with us.
  • We want to make His presence tangible and bring His love and closeness into the world.

What does "Emmanuel" mean?

The name "Emmanuel" comes from the Bible and means "God with us" (cf. Matthew 1:23; Isaiah 7:14). Jesus Himself is called by this name. This closeness of God to us human beings, His loving yes to our world, and His open heart for everyone shape our life in the Emmanuel Community.

Music and Liturgy – The heart of our life of faith

Music and liturgy play a central role in our community life. Many of us have found a new way to faith through the beauty of the songs. At the beginning of our community, the first members discovered praise – a shared turning toward God in the joy of the Holy Spirit. We wish to share this experience with others. citeturn0search0

For us, the song – praise through music – has become a true spiritual experience, an encounter with God. Many have discovered the joy of faith through the liveliness of praise. At the same time, we recognize the treasure that the Church has given us through the liturgy, which makes the mystery of salvation present to us. The Eucharist in particular has a central place in our lives through adoration and the daily celebration of the liturgy. It is the source of all our missionary actions. citeturn0search0

The beauty of the liturgy speaks to us

The liturgy is the work of God; it is God Himself who acts and touches our hearts. Our role in this is to celebrate the liturgy and remain open to this grace. In the beauty of the liturgy, our love for God is revealed, as is told in the Gospel (John 12:3): "Then Mary took a pound of pure, costly spikenard, anointed the feet of Jesus, and wiped them with her hair. The house was filled with the fragrance of the oil." This beauty is not an end in itself, but expresses our love for God as our Creator and Redeemer. citeturn0search0

A beautiful liturgy can touch hearts: through it, everyone can enter into prayer and thus reach a deeper relationship with God. Many of us also experience a deep connection with one another in the process. This inner community is a gift of the Holy Spirit – essentially the experience of Church! citeturn0search0

New songs and hymns

We have discovered that the liturgy is not just a matter for a few specialists; it is for everyone! Every baptized person, and thus the whole people of God, is called to celebrate the liturgy of the Church intensely and fruitfully and to understand it more deeply. In our community, the musical repertoire is growing continuously. Every year, brothers and sisters compose new songs for praise, adoration, and liturgical celebrations. This creativity is a sign of the eternal novelty and youthfulness that the Holy Spirit grants His Church, in order to lead people of our time back to faith more strongly. citeturn0search0

A diverse community

We are an international community of faith with papal recognition. Since December 8, 1998, we have been officially confirmed for the entire Church. Today, we are active in many countries and come from a wide variety of walks of life: whether farmer or student, lawyer or saleswoman – married couples, young people, singles, priests, as well as brothers and sisters living in celibacy are committed in our community. Each of us lives our faith where we are – in family, profession, and everyday life. Our common goal is to make the Gospel experienceable today.

Our response to God's love

We regularly take time for praise, the Holy Mass, and adoration. In doing so, we bring the concerns of the world before God. For us, faith means that Christ is the center of our lives. This gives us the longing to live genuine solidarity with others, to suffer with them, and to meet them in their search for God. It is particularly important to us to pass on the faith in a contemporary way. Therefore, new mission projects are constantly emerging in our community to respond to the current needs of people. Anyone who wishes to embark on this journey with us is welcome!
