Theology on Wednesday "Foundations of Christianity"
Lecture series (esp. for alumni) September 2, October 7, November 4, December 2, 2026 at 7 p.m. at Herbergsgasse 7; Basel. Prof. Dr. Johannes Herzgsell SJ presented his new three-volume work "Foundations of Christianity I-III" (together with Dr. Cora Duttmann) at the end of 2025. On the first Wednesday of every month, he gives a theological lecture on this based on selected chapters (followed by a discussion). *** Additionally, every third Wednesday of the month, there is a theological discussion group, primarily attended by active seniors. After a brief introduction, there is an open discussion on a wide variety of topics from theology and the church. Dates: September 9 (exception), October 7, November 4, December 16, 2026. Thursdays, from 7 p.m. to 7.30 p.m. in the chapel, Herbergsgasse 7 in Basel: September 10, September 24, October 8, October 22, November 12, November 26, December 10, 2026. To this day, thousands of young people from all over the world meet in Taizé. The meditative chants and sounds of Taizé naturally lead us into stillness and a natural sense of gathering. English speaking students are particularly welcome at this event
- Bible Study Living the Word: Faith in Action
Saturday, October 3rd, October 31st, December 12th, 10:30 a.m. at Herbergsgasse 7 in Basel. Studying the Bible is about discovering who God is and learning how to walk faithfully with Him. It draws on centuries of wisdom about who we are as human beings—and who we are called to become. This group will explore Scripture together, with a focus on discussion and reflection on how its knowledge can shape our daily lives. Each session includes a short reading, guided reflection, and open discussion. No prior Bible knowledge is needed—only a willingness to grow, ask honest questions, and consider what it means to follow Christ in a real and practical way. Whether you are a Christian believer or simply curious about Christianity, you are warmly welcome to join us.
