Auditorium: Latin as a Liturgical Language (Fr. Coelestin Nebel OCist)

Auditorium: "Latin as a Liturgical Language" with Fr. Coelestin Nebel OCist

In the next auditorium on Tuesday, July 14, 2026, at 8:00 PM, in the St. Marien parish hall, our brother Fr. Coelestin, who serves as the head of the Secretariat for the Liturgy of the Cistercian Order, will give a lecture on "Latin as a Liturgical Language". It is a presentation of his thesis, which he submitted to the Pontifical Institute of Sacred Liturgy at Sant'Anselmo in Rome. The announcement for the lecture states: "Like few other external signs, the transition from Latin as a liturgical language to the vernacular has become a trademark of the liturgical reform following the Second Vatican Council. How did it happen that Latin became a liturgical language in the first place and remains so today? Is Latin a help or a hindrance to the fruitful celebration of divine worship? The lecture intends to explore these and other questions, on a journey through the eventful history of the Church." Following the lecture, we always invite you to a small reception. As with all lectures in the Auditorium Kloster Stiepel, there will be a livestream on the monastery's YouTube channel.
